Moving On School
Class is in session. Master Your Divorce.
Welcome to Moving On 101, the one and only class you’ll need in order to master the concepts of getting divorced and co-parenting your children – that you can truly move on.
The Moving On School was developed by Certified Divorce and Co-Parenting Specialist Michelle Dempsey-Multack, MS, CDS as a means to educate and inform mothers going through divorce. As a child of divorce and a mother who divorced when her own child was two, Michelle has developed and refined a well-rounded curriculum informed by her own personal experience coupled with her experience as a divorce professional.
What will I learn in Moving On School?
The question is, what won’t you learn in moving on school?! As a student of Moving On 101, you’ll follow a curriculum based on Michelle’s Moving On Method which is centered around six modules encompassing Michelle’s four principles for moving on:
Week 1 – Managing Your Emotions
Your emotions play a key role in your ability to move on. Naturally, your emotions also take center stage during divorce – which is expected, and so very normal (divorce is hard!). In this first module, Michelle teaches you how to manage your emotions towards your ex-partner. Without this critical skill, your emotions will cloud every conversation, conflict, and important child-focused decision you’ll have to make both during your divorce process and throughout the entirety of your co-parenting future.
Weeks 2 and 3 – Mastering Skills for Healthy Communication and Boundary Setting
The biggest mistake divorced couples make is keeping themselves stuck in the marital cycle of communication which is largely rooted in codependency. If you’re getting divorced, it’s very likely that your communication style is already unhealthy, which can be devastating to co-parented children. In this module, Michelle teaches you how to master your communication with your ex by setting critical boundaries, which will make communicating with even the most high-conflict ex-spouse a lot less difficult, and will reduce the anxiety your children feel about living a co-parented life.
Week 5 and 6 – Maintaining a “Child-first” Mindset
While divorcing is an adult activity, it can very often wreak havoc on the children who end up caught in the middle by parents who do not adopt a child-first mindset. In this two-part module, Michelle teaches you how divorce really affects the children, how to make decisions from a child-first mindset, how to avoid exposing them to ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences), and how to keep your children out of the middle of your divorce.
Week 7 – Michelle’s Co-Parenting Life Hacks
Co-parenting is not the same for everyone. What might work for one family might not work for yours, so this module is designed to give you the strategies for hacking co-parenting. Whether it’s figuring out how to keep track of your childrens’ “things” in two homes, who goes to what school events, how to handle birthday parties and holidays, or just how to maintain consistency in two homes, these co-parenting life hacks will make your life a whole lot easier.
Week 8 – Making Sense of Your Parenting Plan
The number one reason why divorced parents end up back in court is because of poorly written parenting plans. Your parenting plan needs to be designed in a way that works best for your family, but how do you do that when you don’t know what your options are? In this module Michelle will give you a healthy dose of insight into what a well-done parenting plan looks like to ensure you stay out of court after your divorce is final.
